About Dr. Scherer 
Dr. Thomas Scherer

Dr. Thomas Scherer was born in Valparaiso Indiana, a small college town. His childhood was spent there and in Glen Rock, New Jersey. His family then moved to Chicago, Illinois. He was educated at Loyola University of Chicago in pre-med with a B.S. in Biology. He graduated from Midwestern University Medical School in 1983. An internship was completed at Doctor's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Surgical residency was completed at Phoenix General in Phoenix, Arizona and at Midwestern University in Chicago. His extensive experience in trauma centers in Chicago, Columbus, and Phoenix continues to be an asset to Central Oregon.

Dr. Scherer also served his country in the US Army as a General Medical officer and Flight Surgeon (1984-1988) at the Yuma Proving Grounds Arizona. There he treated a variety of medical problems in children, adults and the retired.

Dr. Scherer is a trained and board certified surgeon to perform all aspects of surgery including breast, gastrointestinal, gynecological, vascular (blood vessel) surgeries. He is especially skilled in laparoscopic (less invasive) surgical procedures to include gall bladder, appendectomy, hernia, tubal sterilization, ovarian and hysterectomy surgery and hiatal hernia (heartburn).

Dr. Scherer has been licensed in Oregon since 1991, and is a proud member of the Central Oregon Medical Society, Oregon Medical Association, AMA, AOA, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Scherer enjoys skiing, fishing, water sports, and his immense rose garden. Dr. Scherer's wife is an award winning Latina playwright (www.SilviaGonzalezS.com) and they have two young children.
